Developed by the pioneering work of Fred Mitchell Sr. DO in 1948, and further advanced by esteemed colleagues like Phil Greenman DO, Fred Mitchell Jr. DO, and T.J. Ruddy, MET has become one of my go-to methods for addressing a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.

The Power of MET

MET's unique approach of utilizing isometric contractions to relax and lengthen muscles has proven incredibly effective in improving joint mobility and range of motion. I have witnessed firsthand how this gentle technique can alleviate chronic muscle stiffness, neck and back pain, sciatica, and even scoliosis by restoring proper joint function. One of the key reasons I favor MET is its ability to reduce muscle tension and pain. By activating the Golgi tendon organs, MET facilitates autogenic and reciprocal inhibition, allowing for profound muscle relaxation and relief from spasms and associated discomfort.

Restoring Balance and Symmetry

Another aspect of MET that I find invaluable is its capacity to address muscle imbalances and asymmetries. Whether it's a functional leg-length discrepancy or uneven arm, hip, or leg lengths, MET's ability to restore proper muscle tone and joint alignment is truly remarkable. Moreover, as a non-invasive and low-risk technique, MET is suitable for a wide range of patients, making it a versatile tool in my practice. The fact that it involves controlled, submaximal muscle contractions by the patient further enhances its safety and accessibility.

Enhancing Recovery and Rehabilitation

Perhaps one of the most rewarding aspects of incorporating MET into my practice is its ability to enhance recovery and rehabilitation processes. By improving joint mobility, reducing pain, and restoring muscle balance, MET has proven instrumental in facilitating faster recovery from injuries and conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system. In my experience, MET has consistently delivered remarkable results, and I take great pride in being part of a lineage of osteopathic practitioners who have contributed to the development and dissemination of this powerful technique.
